Gianfranco Mazzaferro, a member of the Ferrolati Corse Karting Team, heads into the second weekend of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championships with high hopes on the heels of solid testing. Canada’s top kart racers will descend on the legendary Goodwood Kartways located in Stouffville, Ontario for rounds three and four of the six round championship. Mazzaferro heads into the weekend 8th in the points following a challenging opening weekend at Mosport International Karting in which he was able to showcase speed with a dominant prefinal win, but not secure the much need final race results.
“Mosport was a challenge for sure,” smiles Mazzaferro. “We had speed and the kart was good, but we just kept getting caught out by the changing weather conditions. We were always in the hunt but contact in race two really put us behind.”
GF and tuner Nick Cosco have been hard at work testing at Goodwood in preparation for this weekend’s action. A recent tune-up event at Goodwood Kartways had many of the front-runners in action and GF was able to hit the podium in third as the duo worked a well-designed development program.
“I’m pumped for this weekend for sure,” continues Mazzaferro. “Goodwood is a tough track and is really fast with the new surface. We are really happy with the kart and engine package we have going into the weekend. I know there are a few tenths I can find in my driving. It’s important to score well this weekend.”
Racing action gets underway on Friday with official practice followed by a full slate of racing on both Saturday and Sunday.
