PR: Race #1 of the OGKC at Le Circuit Quyon

By: Crawford Kilpatrick / Le Circuit Quyon

What a fantastic race weekend at Le Circuit Quyon in Quyon, QC! After a well-attended rookie school and practice day on Saturday, 24 competitors braved the rain, cold, and overcast skies to arrive at the track early Sunday morning for the first race of the 2014 Ottawa-Gatineau Karting Championship (OGKC).

For those of you not familiar with the series, the OGKC is a karting championship with events held primarily in Canada’s Capital Region; run by racers, for racers – making sure that everyone has fun, makes friends, and enjoys the racing experience. A special thanks goes to series sponsors: The Door Company; Le Circuit Quyon; NR Kart Store; and KDM Racing. Without these great sponsors, it would be difficult to have such a great and affordable series!

With 24 competitors racing in four hotly-contested classes, the track was a busy (and wet) place to be! Based on participant registration, the official classes raced were: Novice, Briggs Junior, Briggs Senior, and Briggs Masters). The feature race podium results were as follows:

Novice: 1st Dezmen Bird, 2nd Ashton Lake, 3rd Jake Mc Neely.

Briggs Junior: 1st Owen Clarck ; 2nd Henrie Knox ; 3rd Paul Hoffman

Briggs Senior: 1st – Miles Smith ; 2nd – Jérémie Verner-Filion; 3rd – Charlotte Lalonde

Masters (Briggs): 1st – Phil Hall; 2nd – Crawford Kilpatrick; 3rd – Mike Forget

Congratulations to all of the racers that made the podium, and a big thank you to everyone that participated in making our first race weekend of 2014 such a huge success!

Last but not least, a big thank you to Race Director Jason Bolton and the track marshals for working throughout the day in the pouring rain to keep the racers safe and sound during the event.

Karting is growing in popularity in Canada’s Capital Region, and this weekend was a very positive sign of great things to come in the future. See you June 1st at Karters Korners, Stittsville for Race #2 of the OGKC – online registration will be available in the near future.
