a time, DMR Motorsport continues to impress in their inaugural season of competition. Making their first Ontario stop of the season at Mosport International Karting, DMR entered three drivers aboard FA Karts, all in the very competitive Briggs & Stratton divisions at the first round of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship.

Team manager Derek Michaud was a late addition to the event, but the depth, talent and opportunity was too good to miss. The decision to race was a great one as Michaud was up to speed immediately in Briggs & Stratton Senior, qualifying third on Saturday and winning the Prefinal. Unfortunately an incident in the first corner of the Saturday final would claim victim to Michaud and end his race before it really even got going.

But he returned on Sunday seeking some redemption and to prove his DMR/FA Kart package. Forced to start deep in the Final, Michaud drove from his fourteenth-place starting position all the way to the lead on the final lap, only to get nipped at the finish line by a mere 0.055 seconds, the closest finish of the weekend!

Additionally David Patrick was in contention in Briggs Senior. Patrick, a karting veteran, was making his first start of the season as well as his first start on an FA Kart. He found no issues getting up to speed, battling inside the top-ten all weekend long. Ultimately he ended up with seventh and eleventh place results and he was very impressed with the simplicity and speed of the FA Kart chassis.

Finally, DMR entered Greg Jewell in the Briggs Masters class along with supporting Sylvain Coursol on his Arrow kart. The duo finished sixth and seventh on Saturday with Jewell getting the upper hand. Bettering themselves on Sunday, Coursol scored a podium with his third-place result followed by Jewell in fourth and Martin Coursol was fifth, who joined Sundays action.

Heading into the next race of the DMR schedule, the team welcomes Canadian Touring Car Championship racer Alex Healy to the squad. Healy will be competing in Briggs & Stratton Senior at the Coupe du Quebec event at SRA Karting, as he prepares for a run at the Canadian Championship in August.

The attention of the DMR race team now shifts to the third round of the Coupe du Quebec at SRA Karting. The team is looking to grow and those interested in joining DMR or testing a 4-cycle FA Kart are asked to contact Derek Michaud at 613-577-7309 or email Derek-Michaud@hotmail.ca. Arrive and Drive packages are available for SRA and Goodwood, but positions are filling up quickly.

Derek Michaud, Team Manager and Driver, DMR Motorsport
“Our results from the weekend at Mosport started a little rough, but we bounced back by getting a second coming from the back of the pack. Dave Patrick and Greg Jewel both mentioned that the chassis worked great and had no issues at all to drive it. Heading on to the Coupe de Quebec at SRA the team is planning to bring more drivers out and be successful once again. After the success we had at Mosport ECKC we are looking for more drivers to join us at the ECKC round at Goodwood. These chassis are remarkable and easy to tweak to get the extra tenth we need.”
