PR: Devlin Defrancesco to Compete in Granja Viana 500

“Tony Kanaan and Rubens Barrichello select karting standout as teammate in Granja Viana 500”

Capping of a terrific 2012 racing season, Alpinestars supported driver Devlin DeFrancesco will make a trip to Brazil to compete in his first ever Granja Viana 500. Taking place at the Kartodromo Internacional Granja Viana, DeFrancesco will join fellow pilots Rubens Barrichello and Tony Kanaan in a three-kart team that will look to stand atop the podium. Not only will this be Devlin’s first attempt at the Granja Viana 500, he will also make history to be the youngest competitor to ever compete in the historic event.

“I am very excited to head to Brazil and compete in an event that I have followed online for years,” expressed an excited DeFrancesco. “Also, to be able to drive with Rubens and Tony is a memory that I will never forget. I look up to these guys and hope one day I can have the success that they have had in motorsports.”

Competing throughout the world in 2012, Devlin showed speed in North American and European events. Running in the Vortex TaG Cadet, 60cc Mini and Rotax Mini Max ranks, the multi-time champion officially made the switch to the junior class at last month’s Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SuperNationals. Coming accustomed to the bigger kart and faster powerplant, DeFrancesco improved throughout the weeklong event before contact in the main event ruined chances at a victory.

2012 has not only been about on track action for DeFrancesco, as he has become to excel in off track sponsorship and partner programs. Recently joining forces with Alpinestars, the premiere motorsports apparel company; Alpinestars joins Devlin’s other main sponsors, BRM Manufacture, Yogurty’s Yogen Fruz, Sunnybrook Hospital and XYZ Corp as he and DeFrancesco Racing look to make karters and the motorsports industry more aware of these supporting companies.

“Devlin has matured and grown over the past twelve months,” explained DeFrancesco Racing Team Manager and Driver Coach Nick Mitchell. “This can be seen both on and off the track and it will definitely go a long way in his goal to become a professional in the world of motorsports.”

With the official race day being Saturday, December 15, 2012, Devlin DeFrancesco and the DFR crew will head to Brazil early this coming week. With practice slated to take place on Thursday, Devlin will experience his first laps in a full-bodied competition kart before the team attempts to qualify on Friday.
