Exciting Race Format Announced for ASN Canadian National Karting Championships at Mosport

The organizers of the 2015 ASN Canada FIA Canadian National Karting Championships have confirmed over the past month some changes to the event race format to build some added excitement to the important race days building up to Championship Sunday.

Held this year at the recently renovated and driver favourite Mosport Kartways near Bowmanville, Ontario, a large selection of the countries best Briggs & Stratton, Rotax Max and Shifter Kart drivers will ascend on the facility from August 19 to 23 to compete for one or two of ten national titles up for grabs.

The event format was confirmed just over a week ago and has a bit of a twist.

After two days of testing and tuning on Wednesday and Thursday the official action begins on Friday with Pfaff Motorsports SuperPole Qualifying. Every class will hit the track for a short six-minute qualifying session with the top-six contenders advancing to the SuperPole Qualifying and positions seven on back maintaining their positions for the heat races. Resetting the times of the top-six, the drivers will hit the track for two hot solo laps with the fastest time earning the pole-position for heat races. In addition, Qualifying will also count towards the heat race points total, putting even more importance on getting a good start to the weekend.

Each class will then run two heat races based on the grids set in Qualifying. The first heat will run on Friday afternoon while the second on Saturday morning. Tallying the points from the two heats and qualifying to reset the grids, drivers will return to the track on Saturday afternoon for a PreFinal race that will align the grids for Sunday’s Canadian National Championship Finals.

The official schedule for the event has been posted on http://asncanada.com under the Canadian Karting Championships page. Based on the number of entries and any adjustments that may be needed, an updated schedule may be posted as the event nears, so keep tabs on this page.

Drivers are encouraged to Pre-Register for the Nationals through the ASN Canada website with the deadline closing this Sunday August 16. Don’t wait, register now!
