Nationals Preview: Briggs & Stratton LO206 Junior & LO206 Masters

For Canadian kart racers there is no bigger week on the schedule than the ASN Canadian National Karting Championships and that week is finally here! Racers from across Canada are making their way to Mosport Kartways near Bowmanville, Ontario to compete for Canada’s ultimate title and the glory of being a National Champion. The week long event on the tricky 1.2KM track will be a true test in all categories where high speeds, deep braking zones and plenty of passing will keep drivers on their toes.

The event officially kicks off on Friday with Pfaff SuperPole Qualifying. From there drivers will race in two heat races and a PreFinal before returning on Sunday to compete in the Canadian Championship Finals. It’s going to be an exciting week and for those who cannot attend, stay tuned to CKN all week long for full event coverage!

Defending Canadian Champion: Roman DeAngelis (Advanced to Rotax Junior) There are multiple drivers in the Briggs & Stratton Junior category who will have a shot at the National championship come the finals Sunday. Among the favourites are this years ECKC winners, Braxton Terry, Joshua Conquer, Tyler McCullough, Xavier Dorsnie, Zachary Vanier and Tanner Hamilton. Each driver has been quick at every race thus far this season and have strong momentum coming into the National Championship weekend.

The six previously mentioned drivers are not the only ones who will be at the front of the field as William Chayer, Zach Latimer, Khloe Drummond and Gavin Saunders have all been running really well as of recently at the Mosport Kartways facility. The field isn’t limited to any one of these names taking the national title, as there are so many more drivers in the field who could be in the mix of things throughout the weekend.

As one of the largest classes on the schedule make your way to fences whenever Briggs & Stratton Junior hits the track this weekend.

Briggs & Stratton LO206 Masters (Sponsored by: K&K Karts)

Defending Class Champion: David Patrick (TBD) The Briggs & Stratton Masters category will provide an interesting mix of drivers. On one side of the scale you have the former karting veterans going against the new masters who are starting to make names for themselves. In the veteran corner are names like Mike Rogers, Dave Anderson, Marc Stehle, Eric Beltrami, Eli Yanko and Corey Walsh. These six gentlemen have been quick all year long and all are determined win the Canadian Nationals, Stehle being the only one who has previously won the race ten years ago at SRA. Among the top traditional Masters drivers racing at the National Championships this weekend are Margay’s James Dunn and Michael Forget who have been in contention in the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. Dunn recently won the Capital karting Grand Prix in Ottawa and made the podium ECKC multiple times this season as well. Kyle Aulenback is another driver who hopes to be at the front of the field this weekend as he has worked really well with K&K teammate Rogers to take the top two positions at last weekends Champion Ron Fellows Karting Challenge race at Mosport. Finally the dark horse driver for this weekend is Steve MacVoy who swept the opening ECKC round at Goodwood. With defending champion David Patrick on the fence about competing this weekend after taking the season off, it appears a new Canadian Champion will be crowned on Sunday.
