FWT: Wang and Schiavo Control the Masters Classes on Saturday

After many days of testing this week in Homestead, Florida, it was finally race day for the 2014 Florida Winter Tour. Friday’s qualifying sessions set the grids for todays pre finals, setting up for a great day of action at Homestead-Miami Speedway under sunny skies and warm temperatures.

The Masters divisions are always a fan favourite for the Florida Winter Tour and usually provide some great racing from seasoned vets as well as fathers getting in some quality family time.

The man on the pole-position converted his front row starting spot into a stellar victory. American Derek Wang (KGK/FA Kart) was untouchable all day at Homestead, winning both the prefinal and Final races in fine fashion. Carlos Medina (PSL/CRG) of Mexico was the benefactor of a late race issue, allowing him to move up one step on the podium while Luis Schiavo (Goodwood/Intrepid) of Venezuela was forced to settle for third after running second all race long.

Max Masters

Schiavo got his revenge later on in the day as he cruised to victory in the Max Masters class. It is very impressive to see him run two different classes, and be successful in both. He will start from the pole for both on Sunday.

American Scott Falcone (Kartsport/Arrow), a multi-time FWT Champion, finished runner-up to Schiavo holding off Chris Boggart (TonyKart) in the early stages of the Final. The class features motorsports star Max Papis this weekend, although he was forced to retire with two laps remaining.
