FWT: Oliver Askew Doubles Up in Rotax Senior

It was another beautiful day in Ocala, Florida as the 2014 Florida Winter Tour hosted round four at Ocala Gran Prix. As the championship continues past its midway point and looks towards the final round next month, Sunday’s race day in Ocala helped give us a look at the championship contenders in each class.

After a dog fight of a Prefinal in which Jordan Lennox (PSL/CRG) was able to sneak in and take the win, we knew it was going to be a thriller of a Final.

It was a terrible start to the Final that saw Lennox point out the advantage that Oliver Askew (OGP/TonyKart) was able to take before the green light even lit up, but the nonetheless the race went on and Askew darted into turn one while Lennox fell well down the order.

With his teammate on his rear number Askew and Kyle Kirkwood tried to break away, but Luke Varley (Anderson/Birel) was quick to jump in and separate the two and he brought Canadian Zachary Claman DeMelo (Goodwood/Intrepid) with him.

But once out front, Askew continued to do what he always does; hit his marks and make no mistakes, and this allowed him to the keep the short gap that he did from second place all the way to the finish line.

Lennox returned to second place in hopes of having a shot at Askew but just wasn’t able to close the gap and ultimately surrendered the position on the final lap to Kirkwood, who had a great drive back from sixth.

With three wins in the first four races, Askew is looking quite well in the championship standings heading into the final two races next month in Orlando.
