CKN 2014 ECKC Preview: Rotax Micro Max

The Eastern Canadian Karting Championship is celebrating its fifth season of competition in 2014 and it is looking to be one the best seasons to date. The first of four rounds hits the track this weekend at Mosport International Karting and the CKN will be trackside as part of the CKN Summer Tour. The championship class structure remains the same for 2014 with Rotax Grand Finals Invitations up for grabs in Rotax Junior, Senior, DD2 and DD2 Masters once again. For the ever-growing Briggs & Stratton classes, Florida Winter Tour prize packages are available with more prizes to be announced.

ECKC Officials added Tim Hannan over the off-season as the new Series Director as he intends to grow the numbers on track and the presence of the series across North America. With over 150 drivers expected at Mosport, the series is off to a great start and we hope to see the numbers remain throughout all four events in 2014.

As the official media partner for the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship, CKN has prepared class by class previews for this weekends event along with the championship perspective. With over 150 participants expected at Mosport this weekend it will surely be an action packed event!

Wednesday will feature previews for: Rotax Senior, Rotax Mini-Max, and Briggs & Stratton Jr.

Thursday will feature previews for: Briggs & Stratton Senior, Rotax Junior and Rotax Micro-Max.

Friday will feature previews for: Rotax DD2, Rotax DD2 Masters and Briggs & Stratton Masters.

For those who cannot attend this weekends event, CKN will be covering the event online via our CKN Live page where viewers can watch live timing, see results, view updates, and ask questions to the CKN panel all weekend long. Daily race reports will also come with photo galleries and video interviews from the event.

Rotax Micro Max

The youngest group in the ECKC championship also appears to be the smallest group this year as Rotax Micro Max continue to develop drivers and push them up the racing ladder. There are a few new faces in the category but the competition level certainly does not match last years class, one that helped push Patrick Woods-Toth onto the Rotax Grand Finals Micro-Max Invitational Podium.

Last years class champion Matthew Latifi will not return as his competition schedule has him racing in England this summer, opening up the category to a new champion in 2014.

Thomas Nepveu and Jeremy Tallon are early favourites heading into the weekend at Mosport. Nepveu was very strong in 2013 and he’s back for some vengeance while Tallon used his winter to develop his skills with Ben Cooper in Florida and is showing great improvement. William Michaud is another driver from last season who can be a favourite for the Championship as he returns to PSL Karting with another years experience on his side.

Entering their sophomore seasons at the ECKC, we will have to keep a keen eye on Dale Curran and Justin Arseneau as well this weekend.

Notably absent from the list is Joshua Cunha. We have been informed he will not be racing this weekend after having a very successful Florida Winter Tour campaign.

CKN Championship Contenders:

Thomas Nepveu: Thomas ran strong at Mosport last year and has had strong finishes in the last two rounds of the Florida Winter Tour championship. Paired with SH Racing for another year Nepveu could end up taking it all in 2014

Jeremy Tallon: Jeremy has improved his driving skills ever since he joined KMS North America. Jeremy is a podium favourite can take home a few wins as long as he stays focused and stays consistent.

William Michaud: William was had a few top five finishes last year in a every talented Micro Max field but now he has the opportunity to really shine. There is a lot of experience under the PSL Karting tent and we are sure William will learn a lot and develop into a better driver through the course of the year.

CKN Dark Horse Selection:

With there being several new faces in the class we could see a wild card pop out of anywhere this year, therefore we will wait and see this weekend who can be the best in the rookie class in Micro Max.
