2013 Florida Winter Tour Event Format, Oil and Tire Changes

Formula Kart Productions, the exclusive owner and promoter of the popular Florida Winter Tour kart racing program, announced today several changes to the 2013 FWT.

FWT FORMULA KART RACING PROGRAM FORMAT

The biggest change will occur in the racing format for the FWT Formula Kart Racing program. This increasingly popular segment of the FWT features shifter and TaG classes. The new format will add even more racing to a program already known for maximum track time.

The new format will retain the “double-race-weekend” that is so popular with FWT FKR participants, but will see FKP add another race to each FKR race-day. Drivers will qualify based on time. They will then start the first of two heat races based on their qualifying times, fastest qualifier on pole. They will then start the second heat race with the starting order inverted, so that the fastest qualifier starts last. The drivers will then start the final based on points scored in the heat races. The winner of the final will be the race-day winner.

Championship points will be scored in both the heat races and the final, so drivers will have to excel in all four daily competitions to have a chance at the class championships.

FKP’s Bill Wright; “This is a format I’ve raced in the past, and is currently in use in many kart sprint racing series around the world. In my opinion it is the best format for teaching drivers how to race. But I also think it will add a lot of fun and excitement to the Formula Kart Racing events.”

TIRES AND OIL

FORMULA KART RACING PROGRAM

For the 2013 FWT Formula Kart Racing program FKP will specify Motul Kart GP, Xeramic Synthetic, Xeramic Castor or the new XPS Synthetic.

Tires for the FKR program will remain the very popular MG brand.

ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE PROGRAM

For the 2013 FWT Rotax Max Challenge program FKP will specify the new XPS Synthetic oil.

Tires for the FWT RMC Micro MAX, Mini MAX and Junior MAX classes will change to the Mojo D1. Senior MAX and MAX Masters will retain the D2. DD2 and DD2 Masters will retain the D3.page1image20008 page1image20168 page1image20328

The Florida Winter Tour is one of the world’s largest, longest running and most geographically diverse kart racing programs. In 2012 the FWT featured over 400 drivers from 28 countries and all six karting continents, and for the 5th consecutive year was the world’s largest official Rotax Max Challenge series and event.
