The second half of the double-header weekend at Mosport International Karting featured much nicer weather conditions for the opening round of the 2014 Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. With the rumble of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series roaring by on the CTMP track, Sunday was full of octane at the entire Mosport facility including excellent kart racing.

It is the most exciting racing program in Canada at the moment and Briggs & Stratton Senior once again displayed a show that filled the fences at Mosport.

The top-three from Saturday’s podium had themselves up front again as Bailey Jacobs (Gold Kart) led the way through the first lap of the Final with Michael Glaze (TonyKart) and Saturday winner Jon Treadwell (VRS/K&K Kart) in tow, along with Kyle Edgar (Birel) and Ryan Mohan (EA Kart).

Glaze grabbed the lead on lap two with a push from Treadwell and the two were able to break away from Jacobs, Edgar and the rest. From there it appeared it would be a two-horse race, but a battle for the lead on lap nine had Treadwell and Glaze drag racing up the hill towards corner six and looking back realizing the pack was closing quickly.

Two laps later and with the last lap board in sight, Derek Michaud (DMR/FA Kart) had not only joined the front two, but worked by them and into the lead as they ran down the hill into five. Defensively he held the spot through the tight hairpin but Glaze worked up beside him on exit and up the hill the two banged sides attempting to gain any inch they could.

Glaze scored the upper hand through the bowl as Michaud and Treadwell then raced side-by-side up into corner nine and through the final sector. Trying all he could Michaud inched up beside Glaze in a drag race to the finish line, but it was too late and Glaze scored the win by 0.055 seconds and celebrated with his hand and a foot pumped into the air! Treadwell had to settle for third as Edgar and Jacobs completed the top-five. From the rear, Tommy Lemaire-Ouellet (PSL/CRG) drove up to finish sixth.

Round two of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship will be held at Goodwood Kartways near Stouffville, Ontario on June 27-29.
