Ocala Gran Prix prepares for Florida Winter Tour this weekend ...

Regina Rok Cup Race Report
After a long trek for many of Western Canada's Rok Competitors Regina ,Saskatchewan hosted one of this springs most exciting karting events. With close to 30 entries the paddock was full of Rok karts and competitive spirit which could be felt throughout as it was the second of three races to determine who will be representing Canada in Italy at the world final.

The field was stacked with talented drivers including: Kevin Glover, Kevin Buchanan, Luke Behnke, Danny Kacic,Brayden Donkervoort, and Michael Duncalfe to name a few. Friday hosted a practice session where most were learning the physically challenging and technical circuit with Glover leading the way. Following Glover was Donkervoort,Duncalfe and Buchanan who were all within one tenth of a second of each other. On Saturday another day of official practice resumed with not much changing from Friday with the exception of hometown racer Kyle Shields who set some fast laps early on creating a stir in the paddock. Teams were then forced to start looking for more speed as Shields consistently sat in the 38 second range which was clearly the benchmark at that point of the weekend.

By the end of the day Glover, Shields and Danny Kacic the 2005 Rok Cup champion were all looking good however Kacic was not feeling as good as he was suffering from some severly damaged ribs. On raceday Sunday Kacic officially withdrew from the event as he was physically unable to compete after trying to run the morning warm up, Kacic however was not alone as Luke Behnke was feeling the toll of bruised ribs which forced him to withdraw from practice. Behnke however managed to make the race and put in a noble effrt despite his injuries. In qualifying Glover dominated the time charts by nearly a half of a second with Brayden Donkervoort off-pole followed by Buchanan and Duncalfe.

In the Pre-Final Glover set a blistering pace and pulled away from the rest of the pack leaving Duncalfe and Donkervoort battling for second and third with Duncalfe holding on to second going into the final. In the Final Glover took the green and the battle began as Duncalfe dropped back to fifth and Donkervoort chased with all of his might to track down Glover. At lap 7 disaster struck Donkervoort as his fuel line cracked and the motor stalled out with Buchanan sitting right behind taking over the second place position. With only four laps to go Duncalfe ran a little wide hitting a curb which broke his chain forcing his retirement meanwhile behind him Kyle Shields turned up the pace moving up through the field landing a spot on the podium.

In the end Kevin Buchanan walks away from this event with a commanding position going into the Edmonton final where he is nearly guaranteed a spot on the world team as Glovers points do not count being that he is an official member of the Genesis team who is also the Rok Cup promotor for Western Canada. With the support of great companies such as: Chevron Canada, CRG, Vega Tires, Genesis Racing and Vortex srl two of these drivers will have an oppurtunity of a lifetime this coming October in Italy. The next stop on the Rok tour is going to be this August at the Canadian National Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. For more information visit www.genesisracing.com or www.vortex-rok.it
