Zach Meyer Victorious At Innisfil |
| GP Pilot cruises to victory at Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship event; returns to championship hunt |
Gilford, ON – After a disappointing early retirement at the opening round of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship event at Kawartha, Zach Meyer has returned to the championship hunt in the F125 Shifter class after an impressive double-podium performance during round two at the Innisfil Indy circuit. His defense of the class championship took a turn for the best, when a victory in Sunday’s race, along with a DNF of the current point leader vaulted Meyer back into the championship race.
After taking the victory, the eighteen-year-old Meyer was very thankful of all those that helped him win it. “I have to thank my mechanic Joe [Launi] for all his hard work this weekend. Frankie and Tony [Launi] too. It feels great to earn another victory and I couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help.”
On Saturday, Meyer was involved in the best race of the day, as he went toe-to-toe in the rain with his championship competition throughout the 20-lap feature race, swapping the lead numerous times. However, his pursuit for victory came up just short, and he would settle for second.
“I cannot complain with second place on Saturday,” commented the 2009 class champion. “I do not have that much experience racing in the rain, and to be able to battle for the win like that, that was awesome.”
With the track dry, and the temperatures rising throughout the day, Meyer took control of the shifter class early on Sunday, taking the pole-position in qualifying by more than half of a second! From there, he led from start to finish in the pre-final. Grabbing the holeshot in the final, Meyer never looked back, and cruised to victory, despite a sputtering engine. His teammate and driver coach Frank Launi joined him on the podium with a second place finish.
“I was getting a little worried when my engine was cutting out going down the straight-away in the final. But nonetheless, a great day, a great weekend.”
Up next on his 2010 schedule is the third round of the BSRKC on July 2-4 in Leamington. Following that race, he will attack the streets of Trois Rivieres for one of Canada’s biggest street races in the Monaco de Trois Rivieres on July 23-25. |
